A UK resident, not a member (yet - I have hopes!) who was a J/Elect on Rangitiki, is inquiring after the above two shipmates.

I sailed with Ian Broadhirst, who was C/Refrig on Rangitoto, in the early 1960s. I think he became involved with OCL but don't know for how long or, indeed, where he went after OCL.
I suspect that he died a few years ago but am unable to confirm this.

I don't know of Tom Beaufort other than that he came from Bluff originally.

Can anyone enlarge on this information ?

I had a letter from New Plymouth member Duncan Kennedy recently. He wrote an a number of subjects including the following:-
You were asking about Tom Beaufort and where he is. I was told that he died in Christchurch some time ago, but I cannot verify that.
I served my apprenticeship in the NZR Hillside Workshops and I was one of fifteen taken on in January 1948 same time as me. Of the 15 who started that year, 12 had left to become Marine Engineers by 1953 including me and many joined NZS. Tom was the first manager of the Natural Gas Station at Kapuni and that was the last time I saw him.
